4.1 Classification of verification.
a. First article inspection (see 4.2).
b. Conformance inspection (see 4.3).
4.2 First article inspection.
4.2.1 First article verification. When specified, a sample of the cartridge and its
components shall be subjected to First Article Verification in accordance with Table IV.
4.2.2 First article quantity. First article verification shall be performed on the quantity of
item indicated in Table III.

4.2.2.1 Comp B5 explosive composition. The assemblies tested for explosive
composition shall be a representative sample, per MIL-STD-1916 (Representative (stratified)
sampling), from the explosive loading process (kettle mix, pour, and cooling), conducted at full
production volume and rate. The sample shall be selected to represent the pours from the kettle
mix and shall include at least one assembly each from the first and last pour from that kettle.
Sample assemblies shall be completely cured prior to explosive composition testing.
4.2.3 Rejection. If any item fails to comply with requirements, the first article sample
shall be rejected.
